CLARITY Challenge

The goal of the CLARITY (Children’s Leadership Award for the Reliable Interpretation and appropriate Transmission of Your genomic information) Challenge is to identify best methods and practices for improving the reliability and accuracy of the genomics-to-clinic pipeline – spanning sequencing, analysis, interpretation and reporting – to provide the most meaningful results to patients and their families.

Why the CLARITY Challenge?

The time is approaching when genomic information will inform everyday patient care. CLARITY is a collaborative effort to assure accurate, reliable interpretation of genomic data is communicated to patients and physicians. [Read More]

Who Should Apply?

All are welcome to submit an application to participate in the challenge. However, no more than 20 teams will be selected to participate.

By the nature of the Challenge, participants will have to bring a multidisciplinary approach to bear. Consequently, applications to participate by teams that do not include members with experience in bioinformatics, genetics, and medicine will not be considered.

Application Form

Help identify best practices and improve the safety and reliability of the genomics-to-clinic pipeline. Apply to participate in The CLARITY Challenge today.

Only through collaboration will we be able to arrive at best practices and methods for analyzing, interpreting, reporting, and utilizing genomic information. If you are an academic or commercial researcher with a stake in whole genome sequencing and an interest in paving the way for new standards that will advance genome-guided care, we invite you to complete an application form to participate in The CLARITY Challenge.

In addition to competing for the prize, your participation will bring your work to the attention of the entire clinical sequencing community. We will provide to all contestants an opportunity to showcase their team and work and derive the benefits of recognition for their skills

Please complete the application form on this site by March 1, 2012. If you have any questions about the application, please contact PublicAffairs@childrens.harvard.edu.

We will be notifying selected participants and officially launching the contest in April 2012.

Challengers will be provided with de-identified genomic and/or exomic data and relevant medical history from three families with suspected pediatric genetic disease. Over approximately four months, challengers will be asked to identify the best methods for analyzing the data, identifying disease-causing mutations related to the patients' phenotypes, and reporting relevant information back to clinicians in a written format. At the completion of the Challenge, all participants will submit their methods, results, and written clinical report for evaluation by the judging panel.
