The Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine is committed to investing in and creating learning opportunities that promote clinical excellence and effective, compassionate, and safe patient care. To that end, the department supports educational activities for physicians, CRNAs, and other health care team members that:

  • promote the interchange of ideas and information
  • foster a culture of transparency and patient safety
  • optimize clinical education
  • improve clinical decision making
  • engage all stakeholders in the strategies to optimize patient care

The department offers learning and mentoring opportunities both within the department and in collaboration with other departments. Furthermore, the department collaborates with Harvard Medical School's Department of Continuing Education and Boston Children's Hospital's Continuing Medical Education Department to offer various nationally and internationally renowned conferences and educational programs aimed at increasing attendees' knowledge, skills, and professional performance.

The 14th annual multi-specialty represented conference is intended for physicians, dentists, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, advanced practice nurses, pharmacists, and health care administrators interested in sedation. Specialties such as anesthesiology, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, pediatrics, dental medicine and intensive care medicine have all been represented. The Fundamentals of Sedation: Reviewing the Basics Symposium offers an introduction and review of core topics.  The Sedation Simulation Workshops allow to learner to improve individual skills as well as to impart an understanding of a team approach to crisis resource management.  


Pediatric MOCA® Training

Boston Children’s Hospital Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine and the Boston Children’s Hospital Simulator Program are proud to offer one-day Pediatric Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®) Simulation courses in crisis management devoted specifically to pediatric anesthesia. This course meets the simulation training requirement for MOCA® Part IV (Practice Performance Assessment & Improvement) and is intended for practicing pediatric anesthesiologists and practitioners with exposure to pediatric patients, who would like to practice and hone their skills. This course takes place directly at the point of clinical care — in the operating rooms and recovery area of Boston Children’s Hospital.
