Department of Radiology | Pediatric Radiology Fellowship

The pediatric radiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital is the longest running in the USA. Our fellowship program offers broad clinical experience in pediatric radiology and many research opportunities within Harvard Medical School.

The aims of our program are:

  1. Educating fellows with the interpretative and technical skills to be excellent practitioners of pediatric radiology.
  2. Training fellows to provide professional, quality care in different health care settings.
  3. Inspiring fellows to be inquisitive clinical researchers and innovators who will become future leaders in pediatric radiology.

The first year of fellowship is fully accredited by the ACGME for up to 10 fellows. Additional, focused subspecialty training and/or research opportunities are available to qualified fellows who have completed the first year of pediatric radiology fellowship.

During a one year fellowship, fellows rotate throughout a variety of clinical rotations, ensuring wide ranging clinical exposure to all aspects of pediatric imaging, with a particular focus on advanced imaging techniques. Clinical rotations include:

  • Body CT/MRI
  • Musculoskeletal Imaging
  • Neuroradiology
  • Fetal/Neonatal Imaging
  • Nuclear Medicine/Molecular Imaging
  • Ultrasound
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Emergency Radiology

There are twice-daily educational lectures/conferences covering all aspects of pediatric imaging and non-interpretive domains of competency. Additionally, fellows enjoy the benefit of regular Grand Rounds lectures and lectures from Visiting Professors.

Fellows also partake in our Program to Enhance Relational & Communication Skills (PERCS) and simulated sessions to enhance their skillset when having difficult conversations related to their pratice.

All fellows receive one half day of academic time per week with many opportunities to engage in educational projects, quality projects and original research with faculty mentorship. Collaboration with other departments/clinicians is strongly encouraged. All fellows are expected to complete at least one academic project during the fellowship.

Our program offers a competitive salary and large individual academic fund to support educational and academic purchases and travel to educational meetings.

For further information, contact Dr. Micheal Breen or Dr. Sarah Bixby (co-directors of the fellowship) or Ms. Jane Choura (Educational Manager)
