Elaine Lyon, PhD
ARUP Laboratories
Dr. Elaine Lyon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology, University of Utah School of Medicine. She received her Ph.D. degree in Medical Genetics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics in Clinical Molecular Genetics. In addition to her academic duties, Dr. Lyon is the Medical Director of the Molecular Genetics and Genomics at Associated Regional and University Pathologists (ARUP) Laboratories in Salt Lake City, a CLIA/CAP certified clinical laboratory, where she has overseen the growth of Molecular Genetics for nearly 15 years.
As a Medical Director, Dr. Lyon reviews molecular test results and provides sequence variant interpretation. In transitioning new instrumentation and new molecular assays for inherited conditions into clinical diagnostics applications, she has utilized bio-informatics solutions to manage analytical (sequencing), clinical and family data. This allows better interpretation of molecular results for the patient as well as continual assessment for pathogenicity of genetic variants.
The professional and scientific committees of which Dr. Lyon is a member include the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) Program Committee, Quality Assurance Committee, the College of American Pathologists (CAP)/ACMG Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Resource Committee, and chair of the Professional Relations Committee and Clinical Practice committees for the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP).
